Daniel Jay Meredith

A celebration of the life of Daniel Jay Meredith, 71, of Jenkins was held at 2 PM on Friday, January 19, 2024 at South Union Baptist Church with Bro. Curtis Epnett officiating. The family received friends beginning at 1 PM prior to the service. Burial immediately followed in Clark Cemetery. Services were entrusted to the Horn Family at Horn-Nail-Haggard Funeral Home in Daingerfield. Mr. Meredith was born on October 19, 1952 in Pontiac, MI to Elwyn and Betty Joan Meredith. He passed away unexpectedly Saturday morning, January 13, 2024 at his home. Dan lived in Michigan until the age of 21 when he moved to Hot Springs, AR with his family. The family owned and operated a service station and Dan oversaw daily operations. He eventually moved to Grand Prairie, Texas where he was involved with the start-up of the U-haul center. In February of 1976, he became the field manager for East Texas where he would work for just under 28 years before leaving in 2003. Dan went to work with Daingerfield Lone Star ISD in the Bus Barn. With his many years of experience, he quickly became a certifier for those seeking their Class A commercial bus license. Dan was also a training instructor for new drivers for DLSISD and surrounding districts. He loved to drive all students and groups. He was asked to drive the football teams, cheerleaders, band, drill teams and so many more groups through the years. He was also very honored to be a part of the “Stuff the Bus” drive for the Hurricane Harvey relief. When not on the road driving, Dan enjoyed time with his family. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his loving wife of 21 years, Janet Meredith of Jenkins; daughters, Lacey Smith of Texarkana, Courtney Smith of Jenkins; sons, Darin Meredith of Alpena, MI, D.J. Meredith of Jenkins, Thomas Green and wife Amber of Jenkins; 9 grandchildren; brother, Rodger Meredith of Conroe; sisters, Yvonne Milks of Hot Springs, AR and Tamara Brown and husband Randy of Hot Springs, AR.

Annie Duke, 89, passed away peacefully at her home in Lone Star. Services will be 2 p.m. Monday January 29, 2024 at Reeder-Davis Chapel.

Norma McKinney

Funeral services for Ms. Norma McKinney Clark Cates, age 85, of Avinger, will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 24, 2024 at Hughes Springs Missionary Baptist Church.
