Civic Club increases fan donation, surpasses goal

Lesia Lewis (right) of the Piney Woods Civic Club, drops off five fans to the Christian Service Center in Daingerfield. Lewis was unable to attend the previous donation date, as was Jeanette Williams Doddy, who also provided fans for the donation. With Lewis’ donation, the club’s goal of forty fans for the needy was surpassed. In a recent column, one of my co-workers wrote about being tired. It was a good piece, and she was right on the money. Toni’s thoughts made me think. Then, I heard a similar train of thought from my pastor, and it spurred me to write these words.

Sketch something great today

At the store, I made my way through the produce department and came to shelves with containers of strawberries, grapes, mango, and cantaloupe. I grabbed seven cold, yummy packages of fruit and some cold water in another aisle. I added a few cold Gatorades from the front coolers too.

Our world needs action, not emojis

There are those who say that sending prayers is not enough. Social media emojis are not enough. There are those who will make it a political issue and rail about gun control. There are those who will say that every school in our country should have policemen and metal detectors. And, there are those who will disagree with me and call me simplistic.
